About our Pastor....

Rev. Michael D. Pfingsten has served as St. Paul's pastor since the summer of 1994.

Born in 1962 in Racine, WI, he is a 1984 graduate of Concordia University St. Paul, MN (BA in History) and a 1988 graduate (MDiv degree) of Concordia Theological Seminary, Ft. Wayne, IN.

Prior to coming to Harvard, he served Christ for 6 years at a church in Southern Indiana.

He and his wife, Diana, were married in 1986; together they have two sons, Michael A. and Jonathan. The elder one is in college, the younger is in High School.

Pastor Pfingsten's hobbies are photography, hunting and fishing, and he is a true fanatic in rooting for his beloved Green Bay Packers.

The Pastor's Page….

“Welcome to Harvard!”

I don't know how you found this web page (we get "hits" from literally around the world), but I do know that you have found the web site of one fantastic church in a neat little city!

No, we're not one of the bigger congregations of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (we're not even the biggest church in Harvard!). In fact, nation-wide, we are considered just an "average" size congregation. We're not a particularly "flashy" or trend-setting church, either -- but my 14-plus years here have shown me that this is a pretty remarkable place nonetheless.

* St. Paul is a place where we try to worship our Triune God in truth and purity. We are unabashedly Confessional Lutherans -- but that doesn't mean we are "cold" or "stuffy" or only talk about things that happened a long time ago.

* Our worship style would be considered "Traditional," but it still touches the heart while challenging the intellect. We take historic Lutheran teachings seriously, and to buttress that we have lively Bible studies and sermons that apply the timeless Biblical truths of Law and Gospel faithfully to our hectic modern-day lives.

* Here children, youth and adults gather in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ. In Bible study, worship, and through the sacraments we admit and confess our sinfulness and forgive each other just as God forgives us. Because we know we are sinners who are forgiven ourselves, we can get along as brothers and sisters in Christ who have banded together to worship a God who is bigger and better than any of us can even imagine.

* Our building is beautiful, but not extravagent (see the pictures page). Since it is the very House of the Lord we try to take good care of it -- but that doesn't stop us from faithful and generous outreach and support of a variety of missions and ministries.

* As a mid-sized congregation, there are naturally a lot of programs you will find in mega-churches that you won't find here, but we are an active and lively church anyway. There is always something going on that you can get involved in and make a difference with. In fact, since here you won't get "lost in the crowd," one person can make an even greater impact than in one of those mass gatherings!

* Harvard, the city we are in, is a great place to be also! Housing prices are more reasonable than in nearby cities. It is small enough not to worry about traffic, but big enough to have plenty of stores (and great shopping in easy distances in every direction). The city motto is "Success Comes Naturally Here" -- and there are plenty of opportunities to prove it in a city that is also a great place to raise a family.

If you've stuck with me and read this far, let me extend an open invitation to you and your family: Come worship with us! Come visit and see for yourself that St. Paul is a great church to call YOUR church!

Call or email me if you have any questions or want more information. I mean that!

Thanks for visiting!

Your Fellow Servant of Christ,
Pastor Pfingsten

This C-SPAN screenshot was taken from the June 12, 2007 proceedings of the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, DC, where Pastor Pfingsten gave the opening Invocation to begin the day's House deliberations. He was sponsored for this by Congressman Don Manzullo.

In January of 2008 Pastor Pfingsten travelled to India as a guest of an organization called Mission India, where he visited local churches as well as historical India locations.
